He is Full Professor of Computer Science at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and Associate Chair of the Department of Information Technology and Computer Science. Education and career Demetriou was born in 1966 in Thessaloniki, Greece. He obtained his Diploma in Computer Science from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 1993. In 1995, he earned his PhD in Computer Science from the University of Sannio in Benevento, Italy. He joined the Computer Science Department at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki as an Assistant Professor in 1997, and became an Associate Professor in 2003, Full Professor in 2010, and currently serves as Associate Chair. He has more than 50 academic publications and several papers in international conferences. Research Demetriou's research focuses on wireless networks and the security of wireless communication and information systems. He is interested in improving the security and performance of wireless sensor networks. He developed a distributed wireless intrusion detection and prevention system called TPWAS (Trustable Probabilistic Wireless ASystem), which is described in more detail in his paper "Trustable Probabilistic Wireless ASystem". His work on this system was recognized in the DIMACS/IAF sponsored International Conference on the Sciences of Cyber Security 2008, the EUROCRYPT 2009 Award for "Best Paper", and the IEEE Information Forensics and Security 2005 Grand Prize. Demetriou also investigates the use of wireless technology in privacy and security. In 2002, he developed and deployed a wireless service for low-cost collection of monitoring data on air pollution levels. In 2009, he received the Best Paper Award at the 7th International Workshop on Wireless Security. Demetriou is a member of the Wireless@KU Leuven, the IEEE Wireless Communications Society's Security Committee, and the IEEE Communication Society's Workgroup on Information Security and Privacy. He is the chair of the 4th International Workshop on Wireless Security, and the 5th International Workshop on Wireless Technology in Computational Science, and is the editor-in-chief of the IEEE Transactions on Dependable, Secure and Trustworthy Computing. He was the Technical Program Chair of the IEEE Information Forensics and Security 2009 International Conference in Atlanta, Georgia.
